A Sulekha business listing is free to create: Sulekha’s own list-your-business page presents the listing as free, and the sign-up starts with your mobile number and a one-time password (OTP). Our take: create the free Sulekha profile once, finish every field, and then stop. The money question is a different decision, because Sulekha earns from selling leads, and its own pages do not publish what a lead costs. Read what you are agreeing to, set a budget in writing, and judge Sulekha by the enquiries it sends you, not by the size of its audience numbers. In our catalog Sulekha is a national directory in our India set (domain rating 77 in our records), and our catalog labels it freemium: a free listing with paid products on top. This guide covers how to list, what the free and paid sides are, how to edit or close the profile, which cities and categories it serves, and where it sits next to Justdial and IndiaMART.

What we read, and how old it is

Sulekha’s own pages opened for our research tools on 2026-11-06, so most of this guide comes straight from them. We read its list-your-business page, its business-owners page, its business FAQ, its help article on updating a profile, its ProManage page and the first part of its terms. Four limits matter:

  • The business FAQ is undated. We saw no date on it and its wording reads as old, so its lead rules may have changed.
  • The terms were last updated on July 1, 2023, per the page itself. We read the first 100,000 characters of a 155,000-character page, so a clause past that point may be missing from what we say.
  • We could not open Sulekha’s badge page (the request returned an error), and we found no confirmed badge pricing, so this guide does not describe badges or print a price for them.
  • Sulekha’s visitor and business counts are its own claims. They are marketing figures and we repeat them only as such.

The pages we relied on:

Free Sulekha listing vs paid plans

The free profile and the paid products are different things on one website. The common mistake is thinking you need to pay to be listed. You do not, but you may need to pay to receive leads.

Details on each side, all from Sulekha’s own pages:

  • No registration fee. The FAQ says “There is no registration fee”, that you pay only if you accept a lead, and that your balance is deducted only when you accept one. It also says your package will never expire, though unanswered requests can get you deprioritized.
  • Free trial. The FAQ says that after you create a profile and your documents are verified, you get a free trial offer to try leads. It also says Sulekha distributes leads to paid businesses before free-trial businesses, and free-trial customers might not get leads in some categories.
  • Prices can change. The terms say the cost per lead is not constant and varies with factors such as the location of the services and the number of providers there, and that Sulekha may change the cost per lead and monthly platform charges without notice.
  • Tenure plans. The terms also describe “Tenure Only” services: your profile is listed for a fixed tenure, with no commitment to a set number of leads.
  • ProManage. The page advertises a “limited period free trial” without saying how long it lasts. The trial button opens a form (mobile number, business name, contact person, city) and the page says a representative will call within 24 hours.

Our take on the lead model: the cost that matters is not the price of one lead, it is the price of a lead that turns into a customer. The terms say Sulekha decides whether a lead is valid and “does not guarantee that the lead generated will be converted to business.” Start with a small balance, count how many accepted leads you could actually call and quote, and only then add more.

How to list your business on Sulekha

The steps below follow Sulekha’s own pages. Follow the screens if they differ.

  1. Open the list-your-business page on sulekha.com and use the free listing button.
  2. Enter your mobile number. The page lists it as required, then “Start Now.” Use a phone that can receive text messages.
  3. Verify with the OTP. Sulekha’s business-owners page describes a one-time password sent to your phone. If it does not arrive, it says you can give a missed call to a listed number instead.
  4. Claim your listing first. The business-owners page says to claim your business listing to get started, entering your service, your mobile number and your city. If your business already appears, claim it instead of creating a second record.
  5. Create your profile. Choose a category and subcategories that match what you offer, and describe your specific services (the help article uses a salon’s individual treatments as the example).
  6. Add verification documents. The FAQ says document verification can take 24 to 48 hours. ID proofs are not mandatory to create your profile, and it says the profile exists without any verification, but verified profiles get customer requests that are “detailed and much more serious”.
  7. Read the public page. Open your profile as a visitor would and check that the name, address and phone read exactly as in your master record.

You can use a browser or the Sulekha Business app, which Sulekha lists for both Android and iOS.

What to fix before you start

Directories copy from each other, so the details you enter on Sulekha will be repeated elsewhere. Do these first:

  1. Write one master record: the name as it appears on your signage or registration, one address, one phone number, one website. NAP means name, address and phone.
  2. Choose the phone number deliberately. The number you verify is the one customers and leads will reach.
  3. Check for an existing record under your current name, a former name and an old number. A second Sulekha record for the same shop splits your reviews and leads. Our guide to finding and fixing duplicate listings applies.
  4. Run the free NAP checker to see what the open web currently shows for your business, and fix the source of any wrong detail first.
  5. Pick a category that describes what you sell, not a list of every service.

How to edit your Sulekha profile

Sulekha’s help article gives these steps:

  1. Sign in at sulekha.com with your registered mobile number and OTP.
  2. On the dashboard, use the “How to Improve” option next to your profile completeness percentage.
  3. Click “Profile” at the top to open your live profile page and see what the public sees.
  4. Add the contact person’s name and a business email, and make sure both are accurate.
  5. Map your business location, write a short description with what makes you different, and add working hours, social profiles and verification documents.
  6. Update the payment modes you accept.

The article says that once every field is complete, the profile becomes an “Enriched Digital Profile,” and that genuine photos or videos in your category improve it. Its “25 percent” figure for photos is Sulekha’s own claim and we have not verified it.

How to pause, remove or close it

  • Pause leads. Sulekha’s pages say that if you are busy you can pause the lead flow and restart it any time, and that you can define your services in depth and set locality preferences.
  • Report a wrong detail. The terms give myprofile@sulekha.net for reporting incorrect information so it can be corrected. Editing the profile yourself (above) is faster.
  • Close the account. The terms say to write to care@sulekha.com with your login details and say the request will be processed within 7 business days. We found no self-serve delete option described on the pages we opened.
  • Sulekha can remove a listing. The terms say Sulekha reserves the right to cancel any listing at any time, and may suspend or terminate an account over untrue registration information.
  • Cancel a paid campaign. The terms let you cancel a campaign within 5 days of it going live (a free look period), with the refund processed under the refund terms in the premium services section. That part of the terms was cut off in what we could read, so ask Sulekha in writing for the exact refund rule that applies to you.
  • Refunds on leads. The FAQ says that if a lead is unsatisfactory you contact Sulekha support with its details and, after investigation, the amount is returned to your balance. It says a full refund happens only in very few cases, less a setup fee and tax. The FAQ is old, so confirm the current terms.

Our take: deleting a listing is rarely the best fix. A corrected profile on a directory your customers use beats a gap. Pause the leads if you are overloaded and edit the profile if a detail is wrong.

Which cities and categories Sulekha serves

From Sulekha’s own list-your-business and business-owners pages (both show “top cities” lists, not a complete coverage map):

  • India: Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon, Greater Noida, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Nagpur, Surat, Vadodara, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Indore and Lucknow.
  • US list (includes Toronto): Austin, Atlanta, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York and Toronto.
  • Categories: Sulekha says it helps businesses grow in “1000+ categories”. Its list-your-business page names popular ones including domestic help services, home appliances repair, pest control, beauty parlour services, cleaning, event organisers, catering, visa consultants, packers and movers, interior designers, architects, tuitions, coaching and overseas education, and its business-owners page also names advocates and lawyers.

Sulekha’s list-your-business page says “30 Lakh+ Monthly Visitors” and “20,000+ Businesses Registered” (its business-owners page speaks of a “3 million+ network”). Those are its marketing numbers, and we have not verified them. The more useful number is how many enquiries in your own category and city reach you.

Does a Sulekha listing help local SEO?

It helps as a citation if the details match. A Sulekha profile is one more page that repeats your name, address and phone, and in India it is a place customers actually look for services. It does not replace your Google Business Profile, and it is not a ranking guarantee. The ranking benefit people expect is smaller than the consistency benefit: a Sulekha page that shows an old phone number while your Google profile shows a new one is two answers to one question.

The practical rule is the one that applies everywhere. Fix your master record, list on the directories your customers use, and keep every field identical. Our free business listing sites guide covers the wider picture.

Where Sulekha fits next to Justdial and IndiaMART

For an Indian business, Sulekha is one of three platforms people often mix up.

  • Sulekha is a local-services directory that sells leads and carries a free profile.
  • Justdial is a separate directory with its own data and ad plans. Our Justdial guide covers its free listing, its mobile OTP and what to check before paying.
  • IndiaMART is a B2B product marketplace, not a general local directory. Our IndiaMART guide explains the difference.

A sensible order: fix your master record, do the owner-only phone steps (Sulekha and Justdial both start with a mobile OTP), then add the other directories and keep them identical. Our India citation sites page ranks the ones we track for the country, and the local citation finder filters them by your industry.

Common mistakes with a Sulekha listing

  • Paying before the free profile is complete. Advertising an incomplete or wrong profile is the expensive way to be wrong.
  • Assuming leads are guaranteed. Sulekha’s terms say they are not, and the FAQ says free-trial businesses may get none in some categories.
  • Not setting a lead budget. Prices vary and can change without notice, so decide the limit before you add money.
  • Verifying with the wrong phone. The number you confirm becomes your contact point.
  • Creating a second record when your business was already listed. Claim it.
  • Letting the name differ between Sulekha, your website and your Google Business Profile.

How Citation Builder fits in

We track Sulekha in our India catalog, and a Sulekha profile is one citation among many that should carry the same name, address and phone. Owning a correct listing matters more than owning many, and the ongoing value is a set that keeps agreeing with itself as details change. See our citation building service for how that works across 50+ countries and 50+ industries.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Sulekha business listing free?

Yes, creating the business profile is free according to Sulekha. Its list-your-business page presents the listing as free (the link reads List Your Business - Free) and its business-owners page is titled Advertise your Business Online Free. What costs money is the lead side: Sulekha sells leads (customer enquiries matched to your business) through a pay-per-lead package, plus other paid products such as the ProManage profile management service. Its pages do not publish a lead price.

How do I list my business on Sulekha?

Per Sulekha's list-your-business page, you enter your mobile number, create your online profile, then receive matched enquiries. Its business-owners page says to claim your business listing first, entering your service, mobile number and city, and that sign-up uses a one-time password (OTP) sent to the phone. If the code does not arrive, the page says you can give a missed call to a listed number to verify instead.

How much do Sulekha leads cost?

Sulekha does not publish a fixed price. Its pages say the price of a lead varies by the type of request and its location, and that you see current prices in the Sulekha Business app after you enrol. Its FAQ says you pay only for leads you accept, with no registration fee, and its terms say the cost per lead can change without notice. Ask for the current price in writing before you add money.

Does Sulekha give leads to free listings?

Less reliably. Sulekha's FAQ says that once your documents are verified you get a free trial offer to try leads, but that it distributes leads to paid businesses before free-trial businesses and that free-trial customers might not get leads in some categories. The FAQ page carries no date we could see, so treat it as how Sulekha described the model rather than a promise about today's lead flow.

How do I update or edit my Sulekha profile?

Sign in at sulekha.com with your registered mobile number and OTP, open the dashboard, and use the How to Improve link beside the profile completeness percentage. Sulekha's help article lists the fields to complete: contact person, business email, mapped location, description, working hours, social profiles, verification documents and payment modes.

How do I delete or close a Sulekha business account?

Sulekha's terms say to write to care@sulekha.com with your login details, and say the request will be processed within 7 business days. The terms also say Sulekha reserves the right to cancel any listing at any time. We found no self-serve delete button described on the pages we opened. If you only need a break from enquiries, Sulekha says you can pause the lead flow and restart it any time.

Where does Sulekha operate?

India first. Sulekha's list-your-business page shows Top Cities for India (23 listed, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad) and a separate US list (Austin, Atlanta, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York and Toronto). These are top cities, not necessarily every covered location, so check that your city and category are on the live page.
