What goes in an llms.txt file
The format is short and strict on purpose. Per the proposal at llmstxt.org, a file is Markdown with these parts, in this order:

For a local business, the context block is where your exact name, address, phone and hours belong, written the same way as on your Google Business Profile. That is the part of the file with real value: one more place where a machine reads the same NAP as everywhere else.
What llms.txt does and does not do
Our take: publish one because it is cheap and some tools use it, not because it moves rankings. Google has said its search features, AI Overviews and AI Mode included, do not use llms.txt. An industry analysis of server logs in 2026 found that most llms.txt files were never requested by anything. On the other side, AI coding tools and browser agents do look for it, and Chrome's Lighthouse added an llms.txt check to its Agentic Browsing audits in 2026 (a missing file is "not applicable"; a server error fails).

How to publish your llms.txt
- Download the file with the button above. It must be named exactly
llms.txt, in lowercase. - Upload it to the root of your domain, the same folder as robots.txt, so it opens at
https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt. - Open that URL in a private window. You should see plain text, not a web page, a download prompt or a redirect.
- Keep it in step with your site. When your phone, address, hours or main pages change, regenerate it the same day you update your listings.

What should a local business put in llms.txt?
The same facts you want every machine to agree on: your exact business name, address, phone number and opening hours as they appear on your Google Business Profile, your service area, then links to your services, locations, about, contact and booking pages. Keep it short and factual; it is a map, not a sales page.
Is this llms.txt generator free? Does it store anything?
It is free with no signup. Building the file happens in your browser. The optional "Fill from my website" button asks our server to read your homepage and sitemap once, because a browser cannot read another site directly; the address is not stored, and nothing you type into the form ever leaves your browser.
What is the difference between llms.txt and robots.txt?
robots.txt tells crawlers what they may and may not fetch, and well-behaved crawlers obey it. llms.txt only suggests what is worth reading; it grants and blocks nothing. To control AI crawler access you still use robots.txt and your firewall, which our free AI visibility checker tests.
