Bark for professionals is a lead marketplace: customers post what they need, Bark matches the request to professionals in its categories, and you pay credits to contact the customers you choose. Opening an account and building a profile is free. Our take: Bark is a pay-per-lead channel with a free profile attached, not a free business listing. Open the account if you sell a service people post requests for, set a hard credit budget before you buy, and do not count it as a core citation for your business details. This guide covers what is free, how credits are priced and expire, how the guarantee and refunds work exactly as Bark states them, which countries it serves, how to cancel, and whether the profile helps your local search presence.

A note on sources. Everything about Bark below comes from Bark’s own pricing page, its terms and its help center, read in November 2026. Bark’s help center pages returned an access-denied response to our fetch tool, so we read the same articles through the help center’s public article feed instead. The terms page was read only in part (its first 100,000 of about 130,000 characters), so a clause we did not reach could add detail. Bark’s own pages disagree in a few places, and we point those out rather than pick a winner.

Bark for Professionals: Free Profile and Lead Credits, illustrated cover

How Bark works for professionals

Bark’s help center describes the flow in five steps: a customer answers specific questions about what they need, Bark matches the request to professionals who fit, you review the lead and decide whether to contact them, you pay only for the leads you choose, and you get in touch and try to win the job. Its pricing page says that from the moment you sign up Bark sends you leads for free, you pay only to contact customers you want to work with, there is no commission, and after the one-off fee to respond you keep all the money you earn from the job. Follow-up messages after your first response are free.

Two details matter before you spend anything. Your lead preferences (the services you offer, your location by radius, travel time or a drawn area, and filter questions on budget or job type) decide which leads reach you, and Bark’s setup guide stresses that tighter settings mean fewer wasted credits. And the credit cost of a lead is shown on the lead before you respond.

At the time of writing (November 2026), Bark’s US credit article said the current credit price is $2.35 per credit, that prices vary by country and by whether you buy single credits or a pack, and that the more you buy, the lower the cost per credit. How many credits a lead costs depends on the service type (some industries have higher demand and are priced accordingly) and on the size and scope of the job. Bark’s pricing page adds local supply and demand to that list and does not print a per-lead price. Bark’s terms add that the cost of credits is shown before purchase, may be varied at Bark’s discretion, and that tax is payable in addition.

For your own budget, the arithmetic is simple: credits needed for a lead multiplied by your per-credit price, then multiplied by how many leads you must buy to win one job. Only that last number is yours to measure, and it is the one that decides whether Bark pays.

Credit expiry

This is the rule most likely to cost you money. Bark’s help center and terms agree: credits bought on or after 1 November 2025 are valid for 3 months from purchase, and credits bought before then last 12 months. The terms say expired credits are not refunded or extended. Do not buy more than you can responsibly use in a quarter.

How to set up a Bark profile

  1. Create the account from Bark’s professional sign-up. It is free.
  2. Set lead preferences. Add every service you offer, your location and filter questions.
  3. Complete the profile. Bark’s setup guide lists an About section, a profile photo and logo, reviews from past customers, photos and videos of your work, detailed services, social media and website links, and Q&As. It says professionals with a profile that is 80 percent or more complete are three times more likely to be hired, which is Bark’s figure and not an independent one.
  4. Respond quickly. Bark’s guide says speed matters and a personalized message beats a template.
  5. Keep it accurate. Bark’s terms say you must provide accurate and complete profile information and keep it current, and that you may create only one account per business you operate.

Because customers see your profile after you respond, write it for a buyer comparing quotes, and keep the business name, phone and website identical to your other listings. You can check them against the open web with the free NAP checker.

The first-pack guarantee and refunds, as Bark states them

Bark’s pages describe this in three layers, and they do not say quite the same thing.

SourceWhat it says
Pricing pageYour first credit pack is guaranteed: if you do not win business with it, Bark says it will return all your credits.
Help center, Get Hired GuaranteeApplies to your first Starter Pack or first app purchase. You qualify if you have used all eligible credits (or lack enough to contact another lead), at least 3 calendar days have passed since your last lead purchase, you are not marked as hired, and you have not claimed it for that purchase. You get back the credits you used, not the original pack size, three calendar days after your final lead purchase. Claim it by contacting support.
TermsThe Starter Pack Return applies to credits bought for General Barks: your first pack, all of its credits redeemed, no customer contract formed with any of those contacts, and three days passed since you redeemed the final credits. You are entitled to only one.

The practical reading is that the guarantee returns credits, once, under conditions, and it is not a cash refund. The terms also say returned credits go back to your account and you do not receive a monetary refund for them.

Other recovery routes, from Bark’s refunds versus credit returns article:

SituationRemedyBark’s conditions
A lead with invalid contact details, a duplicate or test lead, or one submitted by a minorCredit returnWithin 14 days of the lead purchase (the terms say 7 days); Bark says most requests are processed within 48 hours
Credit packMonetary refundCompletely unused, no credits spent
Elite Pro, monthlyMonetary refundWithin 7 days of payment and no benefits used
Elite Pro, annualMonetary refundWithin 30 days of payment and no benefits used
Bark VerifiedMonetary refundWithin 7 days of payment
Credit subscriptionsMonetary refundExceptional cases only
Starter PackMonetary refundVery rare, such as no leads in the first month; check the guarantee first

Monetary refunds are described as limited and at Bark’s discretion, and Bark says refund windows follow local consumer laws, so name your country when you ask. The terms also say all credits purchased are non-refundable except as that section allows.

Elite Pro and Bark Verified

Elite Pro is Bark’s premium subscription. Its help center lists 2 free leads per week (on leads with no responses after 48 hours, resetting every Monday and not carrying over), a 20 percent discount on credit packs, higher ranking in the seller list, priority support, featured directory placement, an Elite Pro badge, one-click lead reporting, invoicing tools and a public profile backlink. The Elite Pro help article does not state a price, so check what Bark shows you in your own account before subscribing. The credit discount only pays if you already buy credits regularly, so weigh the subscription against your real monthly credit spend.

Bark Verified is a trust badge. Bark’s help center says it is included with Elite Pro at no extra cost and lists a background check, a fraud and card check and business confirmation, with verification typically taking up to 72 hours once documents are submitted. Bark says pricing for Bark Verified varies by country and is shown during sign-up.

Credit Pack Subscriptions are separate: set amounts of credits delivered weekly or monthly at a lower per-credit cost, arranged with Bark’s Customer Success team, running up to 12 months and then continuing automatically unless you cancel. Bark’s terms also describe a separate Bark Marketplace subscription service, which this guide does not cover.

Which countries Bark serves

At the time of writing (November 2026), Bark’s help center lists ten countries: the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, France and Germany. It says Bark is always expanding. If you are elsewhere, check the list again before you invest time in a profile, because a profile that cannot receive leads in your country is not a useful listing.

How to cancel, stop or delete

  • Elite Pro: per Bark’s help center, go to Settings, then Elite Pro, scroll to the bottom, click Manage subscription and cancel. You keep the benefits until the end of the billing period, no further payments are taken, and subscription fees are non-refundable, including unused time. Credits already in your account are yours to keep.
  • Subscriptions generally: Bark’s terms say subscriptions renew automatically and that credit subscriptions can be cancelled on 30 days’ notice. Its credit subscription article says cancelling within the first three months may make you ineligible for future credit subscriptions.
  • Deleting the account: only in the Bark app (Settings, then Delete my account), or by emailing support from the address on the account if you cannot use the app. It is permanent, your profile and reviews are removed immediately, a subscription will not renew, and unused credits cannot be refunded.
  • Fewer emails only: you do not need to delete the account for that, and Bark’s help center has a separate unsubscribe article.

Does a Bark profile help local SEO?

Not in the way a classic business directory does. Bark’s model is a marketplace: customers post a request and professionals answer. The profile is mainly read by customers deciding between responders. Bark lists a “public profile backlink” among Elite Pro and Bark Verified benefits, and its help center does not describe whether a free profile carries one or what kind of link it is, so we cannot say that it helps rankings.

First-party catalog facts, which are about our lists and not about Bark’s traffic: Bark appears on 11 of our trades and home-service citation lists, in position 5 on each, our catalog labels it free, and it is currently marked inactive. We read that as: the account is free, but the model is paid leads, so we would not set Bark up for citation reasons alone. Open it because you want requests, and keep your listings for citation purposes on the directories in your industry list, starting from our tradespersons citation sites page.

Alternatives to Bark

Other pay-per-lead marketplaces work differently on price and guarantees, and are worth comparing before you commit credits: see our guides to Thumbtack for business and Angi for business, and the side-by-side in Angi, Houzz and Thumbtack. For listings that cost nothing to hold, see free business listing sites, and for how review platforms fit around them, review sites for business.

A short checklist

  • Decide your credit budget per month before buying, and remember credits expire after 3 months.
  • Set services, location and filter questions tightly before you respond to anything.
  • Read the credit cost on the lead before every response.
  • If you buy a first Starter Pack, note the 3-day wait on your calendar and read the guarantee conditions.
  • Report invalid or duplicate leads at once, inside the shorter of the two windows Bark states.
  • Name your country in any refund request.
  • Spend remaining credits before you delete the account.

Common mistakes with Bark

  • Treating the free account as a free listing. Responding is where the spend happens.
  • Buying a large pack on day one. Credits expire in 3 months.
  • Assuming the guarantee returns money. It returns credits, once, under conditions.
  • Responding to everything. Wide lead preferences waste credits.
  • Opening a second account for the same business. Bark’s terms allow one account per business.
  • Breaking the code of conduct. Bark’s terms say it can charge an additional fee of up to five times the price of the lead you responded to.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bark free for professionals?

Creating the account and profile is free, and Bark says it sends leads for free from the moment you sign up. What costs money is responding: you spend credits to contact a customer. At the time of writing (November 2026), Bark's pricing page says there is no commission and no hidden fees, and that you pay a one-off fee to respond to a lead, with follow-up messages free.

How much do Bark credits cost?

Bark's US help article showed a current credit price of $2.35 per credit at the time of writing (November 2026), with the note that prices vary by country and by pack size, and that larger packs cost less per credit. Each lead has its own credit cost, shown before you respond, set by the service type and the size of the job. A lead priced at a given number of credits therefore costs that number times your per-credit price.

Does Bark refund unused credits or unsuccessful leads?

Mostly no cash, with exceptions. Bark's terms say credits are non-refundable except in listed cases, and expired credits are not refunded or extended. A bad lead (invalid contact details, a duplicate or test lead, or one submitted by a minor) can earn a credit return, which goes back to your account as credits. Bark's help center gives a 14-day window for that, while its terms give 7 days, so report a bad lead as soon as you find it.

What is Bark's Get Hired Guarantee?

It applies to your first Starter Pack or first app purchase. Bark's help center says that if you use your credits and are not hired, it returns them, provided you have used all eligible credits or cannot afford another lead, at least 3 calendar days have passed since your last lead purchase, you are not marked as hired, and you have not claimed it for that purchase. It returns the credits you used, not the original pack size, and only as credits.

Which countries does Bark operate in?

At the time of writing (November 2026), Bark's help center lists ten: the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, France and Germany. It also says Bark is always expanding and suggests checking back or contacting Bark if your country is missing. Prices, refund rules and some features differ by country, so use the help center for your own.

How do I delete my Bark account?

Bark's help center says you can delete it yourself only in the Bark app: open Settings, tap Delete my account and confirm. There is no option on the website, so if you cannot use the app, email support from the address linked to your account. Deletion is permanent, your profile and reviews are removed immediately, and unused credits cannot be refunded, so spend them first.

Does a Bark profile help local SEO?

Treat it as a lead channel first and a citation second. Bark is a marketplace where customers post requests, not a directory built around a public name, address and phone record, and its help center lists a public profile backlink as an Elite Pro and Bark Verified feature. Our catalog lists Bark on 11 of our trades and home-service lists (position 5), labels it free and currently marks it inactive.
