To change business hours on Google, open your Business Profile, select Edit profile, then Hours, and edit the Business hours section; Apple, Bing, Yelp and Facebook each need the same change made separately in their own dashboards. Our take: treat hours as one record you own, not five fields you remember to fix. Decide the real hours once, put them on your own website first, then update each platform in order of how many customers see it, and use the right tool for the change: regular hours, special hours or a temporary closure are three different things everywhere. This guide gives the steps from each platform’s own help pages, says plainly where we could not read a page, and ends with the order we would work through them.

Three kinds of hours change
Almost every wrong-hours problem comes from using the wrong tool. Platforms mostly offer the same three, though they name them differently.
| What changed | Apple | Yelp | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your weekly schedule changes for good | Regular hours (Open with main hours) | Normal hours | Operation hours |
| A holiday, event or short exception | Special hours (up to 6 days in a row, per Google) | Temporary hours (holiday open or closed) | Special hours (day by day) |
| A longer or open-ended closure | Temporarily closed | Temporary hours (closed days) | Mark as closed, temporarily, with a “closed until” date |
| A separate schedule for a service such as delivery | More hours | Special hours for a service | Not covered in the pages we read |
For holidays specifically, our dedicated guide to holiday hours on Google Business Profile and everywhere goes deeper. This guide is about the whole set of hours changes.
Change business hours on Google
Google’s steps are on its page Edit your business hours. The menu labels differ a little between Search and Maps, so follow what your own screen shows.
Regular hours
- Go to your Business Profile and select Edit profile, then Hours.
- In the Business hours section, next to Hours, select Edit and choose Open with main hours.
- Tick each day you are open and use the dropdowns to set the times.
- Select Save.
Three variations come straight from the same page:
- A break in the day. Create two entries for the same day with different times. Google’s example is a Saturday open 9 AM to 2 PM and 5 PM to 10 PM, closed from 2 to 5 PM.
- Open 24 hours. For each open day, set the opening time to 24 hours and save.
- No hours shown. Choose Open with no main hours and save. Google’s guidelines say to provide your regular customer-facing hours, and note that some business types, such as appointment-only services or those with varied hours, should not provide hours at all.
Google also offers a “Generate hours” box where you type your schedule in plain language, but it says that is available only in some regions and languages.
After you change them. Google says customers may see a message on your profile and a post on the Updates tab on mobile. You can edit that post to add details or delete it to remove the message.
Special hours. Under Hours, select the edit icon next to Special hours, pick a date (a suggested one or your own), and either mark it closed or enter the opening and closing times. Google’s special hours page says they are for temporary changes or closures of up to 6 days in a row, that one set cannot exceed 24 hours (hours past midnight are split into two entries), and that they show only if your hours are set to Open with main hours.
More hours. For services with their own schedule, such as delivery, takeout, drive-through or pickup, Google’s More hours page says to set your regular hours first, because More hours will not appear until you do. Google says More hours should generally be a subset of your primary hours.
Temporarily or permanently closed. Google’s mark as closed page uses the same path: Edit profile, Hours, Edit next to Hours, then Temporarily closed or Permanently closed, then Save. It says to use Temporarily closed for more than 7 days, the off-season or an indefinite closure, and Special hours for 7 days or less. The special hours page says 7 or more days in a row should be Temporarily closed, so Google’s two pages disagree about exactly one week. It also warns that, for broad searches, temporarily closed businesses can rank below open ones, so do not mark a closure you can cover with special hours. A closed location shows a “Temporarily closed” or “Permanently closed” label on Maps and Search. To reopen, Google points to a separate “Mark your business as reopened” article, where you switch back to Open with main hours.
How long a Google hours change takes
Google’s page on what happens to your edits says: “Edits usually take up to 10 minutes to review, but sometimes it can take up to 30 days.” After saving, an edit is Accepted (your information appears), Pending (still under review) or Not approved (Google may decline changes it cannot confirm, and you may be able to appeal). It also says unverified profiles can edit some information, including hours, but verifying unlocks everything.
If a change does not stick, or hours appear that you did not enter, note that Google says it might update a profile when it receives reports that the information is not accurate. Our guide to Google Business Profile suggested edits explains what to check.
Change business hours on Apple Maps
There are two situations, and the right path depends on whether you control the listing.
If you own or manage the business: Apple Business. Apple’s tool for Maps listings is Apple Business (our Apple Maps guide covers the sign-up and the rename). Following Apple’s edit or remove locations page:
- Sign in to Apple Business with a user who has permission to manage locations.
- Go to Brands, then Locations.
- Search for the location, or sort the list by name, and select it.
- Update the hours: normal hours for the standard week, special hours for a service, or temporary hours for holidays and closures (the three kinds are explained below).
- Check the map pin, then select Save.
Apple’s location attributes page explains the three kinds of hours:
- Normal hours are what the place card shows. Apple says that, whenever possible, they should match the hours published on your official website. You can set open 24 hours, specific days or a single day, and appointment-only businesses can list the times appointments can be made.
- Special hours for a service are tied to a service your location offers (Apple’s examples include auto parts hours, happy hour and hair service), show in a dropdown on the place card and are not meant to be permanent. They can only be added for services already listed in Apple Business.
- Temporary hours cover holidays, maintenance or closures, with a start and end date. They come in four types: temporarily open, temporarily closed, holiday open hours and holiday closed hours. One quirk: Apple says temporary hours cannot record the duration when you are closed, so you enter only the hours you are open (for a normal 9 to 5 day that is open 10 to 12, add only 10 AM to 12 PM) and add a fully closed day as a closed entry.
The pages we read do not say how long an edit takes to appear on Apple Maps, how far ahead you can set hours, or whether hours changes go through review, so we will not give you a number.
If you do not manage the listing. Apple’s iPhone guide to reporting an issue with Maps exists, but when we opened it only the table of contents loaded. Search-result descriptions of Apple’s page say to tap your picture or initials beside the search field, then Reports, then Report a New Issue, and the menu names may differ by iOS version. Treat that as unconfirmed, and note that a customer report is not the same as the owner fixing the record. For your own business, claim it in Apple Business instead.
Change business hours on Bing
Bing’s owner tool, Bing Places for Business, has moved to bing.com/forbusiness. Our attempts to open Bing’s edit-your-listing help page returned only a search box, so we could not read it ourselves. Search excerpts of that page say the steps are: sign in, select your listing and click Edit, then use the Hours section to add the days and times you are open, or choose 24/7 if that applies.
The same excerpts carry two warnings worth acting on:
- Changes made in the interface are applied only if they align with trusted external data. If Bing detects inconsistencies, the change may not publish or may be overwritten. That is a strong reason to fix your own website and your other listings first.
- Announcements are for timely updates and are not the place for permanent information such as hours of operation.
We found no timing from Bing itself, and we did not confirm whether Bing offers special or holiday hours, so check your own dashboard. If your hours will not stick, look for conflicting data elsewhere, starting with your own website.
Change business hours on Yelp
Yelp’s help article on temporarily closing or changing hours and its special hours article cover this well.
Regular hours. On biz.yelp.com go to Business Information, and under Hours of operation click Edit. In the Yelp for Business app, tap Biz Info, then Operation hours.
Special or holiday hours. In Business Information, scroll to Add special hours under Operation hours, choose a suggested holiday or add a custom day, and for each day confirm you are open or closed, set specific hours, or mark the full day closed. Special hours are set day by day, saved days appear under Upcoming special hours where you can edit them any time, and customers see a note at the top of your page and in your hours section.
Temporary closure. Scroll down, choose Mark my business as Closed, pick Temporarily Closed, select a “Closed Until” date, add details so moderators can verify the change, and click Save Changes. To reopen, uncheck it and save. Yelp says temporary closure applies when you are not offering takeout, delivery or virtual services, and that it may lower your page in search results.
Timing. Yelp says claiming your business is free and lets updates “take effect immediately” because they come directly from the business. That is one more reason to claim your page. Yelp’s guidelines for business information say the hours should show the normal operating hours in any given week and be in line with what your website reflects.
Change business hours on Facebook
Facebook has a Help Center article titled Add or change business hours on your Facebook Page. When we opened it, only the page title loaded, not the steps, and we did not find a readable copy elsewhere. So we are not going to give you a step list we could not verify.
What we can say is limited: a Page is a separate record from your Google profile, and the platform pages we read describe no sync between them. Open the Help Center article from your own Page, follow the screens as they appear that day, and then check how the Page looks to a visitor who is signed out.
The order to update them in
Each platform above leans on something else, so order matters. This is the order we recommend, and each step has a reason taken from the platform’s own pages.
- Your own website first. Apple says place-card hours should match your official website, Yelp says hours should be in line with your website, and Bing applies changes only if they align with trusted external data.
- Google Business Profile. It is the listing most customers see, and its edit review can take up to 30 days, so it needs the longest head start.
- Apple Business. The place card is what iPhone users see in Maps.
- Bing Places. Bing compares edits with trusted external data, so make this change after your site and Google are correct.
- Yelp. Claimed pages update right away.
- Facebook. Check it as a visitor afterward.
- Everything else: the industry and local directories that carry your hours. If you list on dozens of them, keep a written list of every place that shows your hours so you can recheck them, and see our citation building service if you want help keeping listing details consistent.
Finish by checking each live page as a customer would see it, in a private window, a week later. The free NAP checker compares your name, address and phone, and hours are worth checking by hand alongside it.
Quick reference

Do accurate hours help local SEO?
We know of no independent source that proves hours are a ranking factor, so we will not claim one. There are two documented effects. First, Google says that for broad searches, temporarily closed businesses can rank below open ones, so how you mark a closure matters. Second, wrong hours cost visits: someone who arrives to a locked door after trusting a listing is the outcome accurate data prevents. Hours are not part of the name, address and phone set that citations track, but the same discipline applies: one correct version, copied everywhere. If you are also changing core details, work through our checklists for changing your business address everywhere, updating a phone number across listings and a business name change.
Common mistakes when changing hours
- Using special hours for a long closure, or Temporarily closed for a short one. Match the tool to the length.
- Updating Google only. Apple, Bing, Yelp and Facebook each keep their own record.
- Leaving your website behind. Platforms that compare against your site can overwrite or reject your edit.
- Entering a closed period as open hours on Apple. Temporary hours cannot record a closed duration, so enter only the hours you are open.
- Putting hours in Bing announcements, which are meant for timely updates only.
- Not claiming Yelp. Claimed pages update right away, and Yelp’s closure tools sit in your account.
- Never checking the result. Edits can sit in review, so look at the live page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change business hours on Google?
Open your Business Profile, select Edit profile, then Hours. In the Business hours section choose Edit next to Hours, pick Open with main hours, tick each day you are open, set the times in the dropdowns and select Save. For a break in the day, add two entries for the same day with different times. Google reviews edits before they go live, usually within about 10 minutes but sometimes up to 30 days.
How do I change my business hours on Apple Maps?
If you own the business, sign in to Apple Business, go to Brands, then Locations, select the location, update the hours and select Save. Apple lets you set normal hours, special hours for a service, and temporary hours for holidays or closures. If you do not manage the business, Apple has an iPhone guide on reporting an issue with Maps; its description says to tap your picture or initials beside the search field, then Reports, then Report a New Issue (we could read only that description, not the full article). Owners should make the change in Apple Business instead.
What is the difference between special hours and temporarily closed on Google?
Special hours are for temporary changes such as holidays and events, and Google's hours pages say they cover closures of up to 6 days in a row. Temporarily closed is the status for a longer or open-ended closure, such as the off-season or an unknown reopening date. Google's own pages disagree slightly on the boundary (7 or more days on the hours pages, 7 days or less for special hours on the closure page), so a closure of exactly one week is a judgment call.
How long does it take for new business hours to show on Google?
Google's page on what happens to your edits says edits usually take up to 10 minutes to review but sometimes can take up to 30 days. After you save, the edit shows as Accepted, Pending or Not approved. Because the range is wide, enter planned changes as soon as you know them instead of the night before.
Do I have to update business hours on every site separately?
Yes, in most cases. Google, Apple, Bing, Yelp and Facebook each keep their own hours field and each has its own edit screen, and the pages we read describe no automatic sync between them. Apple and Yelp both say your listed hours should match your website, and Bing says it applies changes only if they align with trusted external data, so update your own site first and then each platform.
Why do my hours on Google keep changing back or look wrong?
Other sources can feed changes into a listing. Google says that if it receives reports that your business info is not accurate, it might update your profile, and Bing explicitly warns that conflicting data elsewhere can stop a change from publishing or overwrite it. Check the edit status in your profile, correct any other listing that shows different hours, and review our guide to suggested edits if Google applied a change you did not make.
