A Manta business listing is a free company profile on manta.com, a US small business directory, that carries your business name, address, phone number, website and category, and it sits next to a paid Premium service that pushes your details out to other directories for a monthly fee. Our take: claim the free page, get the name, address and phone exactly right, and treat Premium as an optional subscription to price against alternatives, not as the thing that makes you listed. Check your connection first: when we tested Manta’s add-your-company page from outside the US, it was walled off. This guide covers what is free, what the paid plans cost on Manta’s own pages, how to add or claim, verify, edit and remove a listing, and what it honestly does for local SEO.

A free Manta business listing vs paid plans
Manta sells three different things under one name, and mixing them up is the main source of confusion: a free company listing, a Premium listings-management subscription, and separate marketing services such as SEO. Only the first two are listings.
| Free company listing | Premium Business Listings | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | Small businesses located in the United States, per Manta’s help pages | Businesses that want Manta to manage and sync their details |
| Cost | Free | A monthly fee, shown as $49 a month with no commitment, down to $37 a month on a 3-year term |
| What you get | Claimed company badge, logo and photos, click-to-call, directions and website links, editable business details, page analytics | The free page plus syncing to up to 70+ directories, locked listings, duplicate detection and removal, a Manta Verified badge, review monitoring, reporting, and no ads or sponsored business listings |
| Commitment | None | Plans renew automatically and fees are non-refundable |
| If you stop | Nothing to cancel | The profile reverts to a free company profile after the paid period ends |
At the time of writing (October 2026), Manta’s listings-management page showed this ladder for its Business Profile Management plans:
| Term | Monthly rate shown | Paid up front |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $49 | Billed every month |
| 6 months | $44 | $265 |
| 1 year | $42 | $500 |
| 2 years | $39 | $940 |
| 3 years | $37 | $1,320 |
Manta’s own pages do not agree with each other here: its free-listing page describes a Premium page “starting at $99/month”. When two pages from the same company differ, the checkout screen is the only number to trust, so read it before you pay. Manta also sells a Local SEO Starter service that its own page lists at $299 a month (its terms set a 6-month minimum for SEO accounts), but that is a marketing service, not a listing.
What the free Manta listing includes
Manta’s free listing page lists what a claimed free profile gets: preferred search placement on Manta, a logo and photos, click-to-call, directions and website links, customizable business information, company page analytics and a Claimed Company Badge.
One detail changes how you approach it. Manta’s FAQ says its profile data comes from public records (trade records, business registrations, secretary of state filings) and third-party data merchants unless a company representative has made changes, and that this aggregated data can be inconsistent or outdated. So a profile for your business may already exist, unclaimed, with an old phone number or a former name. That is why the first step below is a search, not a sign-up.
How to add or claim your Manta business listing
- Confirm you qualify and connect normally. Manta’s help pages describe free registration for businesses located in the United States. Use a regular browser on your normal connection with any VPN switched off (more on why below).
- Search Manta’s directory first. Try your current name, any former name and your phone number. A profile built from public records may already be there.
- If it exists, click the ‘Own This Business?’ button on the profile. Manta’s FAQ says this walks you through the claim and lets you replace incorrect information and add a description, photos and videos.
- If it does not exist, use the free company listing sign-up (the “Get My Free Company Listing” button on the free-listing page) and create a free member account.
- Register with an email address your company controls. Manta says a claimed profile can only be edited by the user ID (email address) that first edited it, so an agency’s or employee’s personal address is a future headache.
- Fill in the core fields exactly as they appear everywhere else. Name, address, phone, website and category should match your website and your Google Business Profile character for character. Add a short description, a logo and photos.
- Decide whether to show your address. Manta requires a physical address (a P.O. box will not do) but lets you choose “Hide from public view” on the address when editing. If you run a service-area business, that option matters. Manta also warns that if you buy a listing product, some directories in its network require a physical address and may stop publishing a hidden one.
- Recheck the live page. Manta says its own results pages typically update within 24 hours, while Google can take days to weeks to revisit them. Save the final URL for your records.
Manta’s help pages do not spell out how it confirms ownership (a code, a call or a document), so follow whatever prompts appear on the day rather than a fixed recipe.
When Manta blocks you: what we saw in our own builds
In June 2026 our builder tested Manta’s add-your-company page from outside the US and got a hard “you have been blocked” page, with a persistent bot check on the register flow. We tested from one non-US location and did not isolate the trigger, so location is the likely cause, not a proven rule. A plain automated request from the same connection on October 20, 2026 still got the same block page on the add-your-company address, and Manta’s help pages usually answered with a browser check. Because of that, Manta is not in our automated build set today, which fits its US focus.
The practical consequence for you:
- A US business owner who hits the wall should turn off any VPN or proxy and use a normal browser on a regular US connection. Traveling abroad can trigger it too.
- A business outside the US should not try to get around it. Manta’s own wording is that free registration is for businesses located in the United States, so the time is better spent on directories that accept your country. Our Canada citation sites page is the place to start for Canadian businesses, and Brownbook is a global directory we build for customers in many countries.
The effort is worth it for US businesses because of Manta’s weight in our catalog: it carries a domain rating of 88 (DR 88 in our own catalog, a third-party backlink metric), one of the highest among the US general directories we track. You can see where it sits in our United States citation sites list.
Verify, edit and keep your Manta listing
- “Claimed” is not the same as “Verified”. Manta’s FAQ says a page with the claimed tag has been filled out and verified for accuracy by the business owner. The Manta Verified badge is a separate Premium feature.
- Edit from the Business Dashboard. Sign in to Manta and start at your Business Dashboard to change details, add a description, photos or videos. Changes are password protected.
- If a former employee claimed it. Manta says the profile can be edited only by the email that first edited it. If you control that company email, reset the password. Otherwise ask Manta to remove the claim, after which you can register your own address and edit again.
- Watch for the anniversary email. Manta’s terms say it may email on the anniversary of your listing claim to ask whether the business is still operating. If you do not respond within the stated timeframe (typically 31 days), the listing may be marked for removal or deactivation. You cannot opt out of this email while the listing is active, so check your spam folder around the date.
How to remove your Manta listing or cancel a paid plan
These are two different jobs with different rules, taken from Manta’s FAQ, contact page and terms:
| Goal | What Manta’s pages say |
|---|---|
| Remove a free profile | Send a request with the URL of the page and a brief explanation; the contact form has a Remove Profile option. Manta verifies you are the account holder or owner, then deletes your account and all associated companies from its directory. Profiles are removed within 48 hours of the request. |
| Make Google forget it | Search engines take longer; cached results are out of Manta’s control. You can ask Google to remove outdated information from its index. |
| Remove it from other directories | Removing your Manta profile does not automatically remove it from synced publishers. Handle those separately. |
| Stop a Premium plan | Subscriptions renew automatically. Notify Manta by phone or online request at least 3 business days before the renewal date. |
| After you cancel | The service stays active until the paid period ends, then the profile reverts to a free company profile. Fees are non-refundable, and longer-term plans may not be cancelable during the term. |
Manta’s FAQ also warns that after you cancel a paid plan you lose the ability to control, optimize and measure your listings, and your information becomes vulnerable to changes by other publishers. A managed sync is something you keep paying to hold in place. Manta typically replies to contact-form requests within 5 business days, so send removal requests early if the business has closed or moved.
Does a Manta business listing help local SEO?
No independent source we found publishes Manta as a confirmed Google ranking factor, so this answer stays hedged. What is defensible: a Manta profile is a genuine structured citation, a public NAP record on a directory with a high domain rating (DR 88 in our catalog). Citations like this support the consistency signal every listing does: search engines and AI assistants can compare your business details across many sources to judge whether the identity is stable.
Two honest limits. First, Manta’s own FAQ says a complete profile helps your rankings but suggests pairing it with its SEO services, which is a sales statement, not evidence. Second, Manta says part of its data comes from third-party data merchants and that this data can be outdated, so recheck your page a few weeks after you fix it. Treat Manta as one consistent, accurate data point, not a lever.
On whether to pay: the free listing delivers the citation. Premium adds syncing, locking and reporting, so price that managed layer against doing the core free listings yourself. It is a workload decision, not a way to get listed.
A short Manta checklist
- Search before you sign up, under your current name, former names and phone number.
- Use a company-controlled email, and match name, address and phone to your website exactly.
- Decide on address visibility before saving, especially for service-area businesses.
- Save the profile URL, recheck it after a day, and calendar the anniversary status email.
- Run the free NAP checker to see whether the details Manta shows still match what the open web says about you.
Common mistakes with a Manta listing
- Creating a duplicate instead of claiming. Manta builds profiles from public records, so an unclaimed one may exist. Claim it; a second record is a duplicate listing you will have to chase later, and our guide to finding and fixing duplicate listings shows how.
- Registering with a personal or agency email. Only that user ID can edit the profile, so when the person leaves, so does your access.
- Buying Premium to “get listed”. The free profile already is the listing. Premium is a sync and monitoring subscription with non-refundable fees and automatic renewal.
- Trusting one price from one page. Manta’s pages differ on Premium pricing; the checkout screen is the final word.
- Ignoring the anniversary email. An unanswered status check can put a live listing at risk of removal or deactivation.
Manta alongside your other citations
Manta is one of several general US directories, and Yellow Pages is another. Manta’s free-profile-plus-paid-upgrade split resembles BBB’s, which we cover in BBB’s free profile vs paid accreditation. For the wider set of no-cost options, see our roundup of free business listing sites, or pick your country and industry in the local citation finder to get the ranked sites from our catalog.
Manta is not one of the directories we automate today, so do this one yourself with the steps above. For the directories we do build, Citation Builder records every live listing with its public URL and a screenshot, keeps your name, address and phone consistent across them, and leaves the listings permanent and yours, with ongoing monitoring as the value. See our citation building service for how that fits around a Manta profile you manage directly.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Manta business listing free?
Yes. Manta offers a free company listing and free registration for small businesses located in the United States, and the free page includes a claimed badge, logo and photos, click-to-call and website links, and editable business details. Paid Premium Business Listings are a separate subscription that syncs your details to other directories, so you never need to pay to have a profile on manta.com.
How much does a paid Manta listing cost?
At the time of writing (October 2026), Manta's own listings-management page showed $49 a month on monthly billing and $37 a month on a 3-year term, with the longer terms paid up front and non-refundable. Another Manta page mentions a Premium page starting at $99 a month, so its own pages do not fully agree. Confirm the price on the checkout screen before you pay, and note that Premium plans renew automatically.
How do I claim my Manta listing?
Search Manta's directory for your company, open its profile and click the 'Own This Business?' button, which walks you through the claim. Register with an email address your company controls, because Manta says only the user ID that first edited a profile can edit it. Once claimed, you change details from your Business Dashboard, and Manta says its own pages usually refresh within about 24 hours.
How do I remove my business from Manta?
Send Manta a request with the URL of your profile and a short explanation, either through the Remove Profile option on its contact form or as its FAQ describes. Manta says it verifies you are the account holder or owner, then deletes your account and all associated companies from its directory, and that it removes profiles within 48 hours of the request. Search engines take longer to drop the cached result, and removal does not automatically remove the listing from directories Manta syncs to.
How do I cancel a paid Manta plan?
Manta's cancellation policy says subscriptions renew automatically and that you should notify it by phone or online request at least 3 business days before the renewal date. After you cancel, the service stays active for the period you paid for and the profile then reverts to a free company profile. Fees are non-refundable, and longer-term plans may not be cancelable during the term, so check your renewal date before you buy.
Does a Manta business listing help local SEO?
It is a reasonable citation to have rather than a proven ranking lever: Manta is a public NAP record on a high-authority domain (DR 88 in our own catalog, one of the highest among US general directories). No independent source we found publishes Manta as a confirmed Google ranking factor, so treat the benefit as indirect, through consistent business data and one more place customers and search engines can confirm you exist. The free listing delivers that part, and Premium adds management and syncing, not a guaranteed ranking.
Why does Manta say I am blocked, and can I list from outside the US?
In June 2026 our builder tested Manta's add-your-company page from outside the US and got a hard 'you have been blocked' page, with a persistent bot check on the register flow. Manta's own help pages describe free registration as being for businesses located in the United States, so it is a US-focused directory. If you are a US business, turn off any VPN and use a normal browser on your regular US connection; if you are outside the US, spend the effort on directories that accept your country instead.
