Free local citation finder: ranked citation sites for your country and industry from a 1,280+ directory catalog

How the finder ranks citation sites

A citation is any public record of your business name, address and phone number (your NAP). Not every directory carries the same weight everywhere, so the finder sorts the catalog into three kinds of source and ranks them for the market you pick:

The three kinds of citation source the finder ranks
LabelWhat it isWhy it matters
NationalDirectories native to your country: its yellow pages, business registers with public profiles, local review sites. They are what people and search engines in that market actually use to confirm a local business.
GlobalThe sources every market shares: maps and place databases, data platforms and the largest general directories.Their data is reused by maps, search engines and AI assistants far beyond their own sites.
IndustryNiche sites for one vertical, such as health directories for dentists or trade platforms for contractors. They show customers and search engines what you do, not just where you are.

Inside each market, higher-authority domains rank above weaker ones, using a third-party backlink metric stored in our catalog (it is not a Google metric). The same ranking powers our citation site guides for every country and industry.

What our catalog shows (October 2026)

The finder is not a scraped list. Every source in it is a directory we track for status, cost and the markets it serves, and the ones marked as built for you are sources our own builds submit to. A few patterns from the catalog itself:

  • 82% of active sources are free to list on, and most of the rest are freemium. A complete citation profile costs effort, rarely money.
  • 100 sources sit at a domain rating of 70 or higher. They are the ones worth getting right first.
  • A typical market resolves about 30 general sources. The largest markets go much further, and choosing an industry adds dozens of niche sites:

How to use your list

  1. Fix your source of truth first. Decide the exact name, address and phone you will publish everywhere, matching your Google Business Profile character for character.
  2. Search before you add. Many directories already hold a record for you from public data. Claim and correct it instead of creating a second one; see how to find and fix duplicate listings.
  3. Start with the global sources, then the national ones, then your industry sites. The global layer feeds the most downstream apps.
  4. Keep a record of every listing: the public URL, the login, and the date you checked it was live. A listing that never goes public is not a citation.
  5. Re-check after any change of address, phone or name, on every listing, the same week.

Want to see what the web already says about you before you start? Run the free NAP checker. Want the list built for you, with each live listing recorded with its URL and a screenshot? That is our citation building service.

A finder, not an audit

The finder answers "where should my business be listed?". It does not tell you whether you are already listed, or whether those listings agree with each other. That second question is a citation audit: a search of every source for your business, with each mismatch written down. Read how a local citation audit works, or check whether AI search engines can read your website with the free AI visibility checker.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a local citation finder?

A local citation finder tells you which websites should list your business name, address and phone number: the directories, map apps, data sources and industry sites that search engines and AI assistants check to confirm a local business is real. This one ranks them for your country and industry from a catalog of 1,280+ active directories that our own citation builds use.

Is the local citation finder free?

Yes. Pick a country and an optional industry and the top 15 ranked citation sites appear on the page with no signup. The full ranked list for your market, with filters and the option to have the citations built for you, is in a free account, the same way our citation site guides for each country work.

How are the citation sites ranked?

Each site carries a relevance score for the market: directories native to your country, the global sources every market shares (maps, data platforms and the largest general directories) and, when you choose an industry, the niche sites for that vertical. Within that, higher-authority domains rank above weaker ones, using a third-party backlink metric stored in our catalog.

Does the finder check whether my business is already listed?

No, it shows where you should be listed, not where you already are. To see what the open web currently publishes about your business, run the free NAP checker, which reads OpenStreetMap, your own website and several free sources and flags mismatched names, addresses and phone numbers. Always search a directory for an existing listing before adding a new one, because duplicates hurt.

How many citations does a local business need?

There is no magic number. In our catalog a typical market has about 30 general citation sources, the largest markets have 70 to 80, and an industry adds dozens of niche sites on top. Accuracy matters more than volume: a smaller set of correct, consistent listings on the sources that matter in your market beats hundreds of thin ones.

Which countries and industries does it cover?

The finder covers 50+ countries and 50+ industries, the same markets and verticals as our citation site guides. If your country or industry is missing, the global sources in any market still apply to you, and you can ask us to research your market.
